Celebrated annually on 16th October, World Food Day was designated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN to promote global awareness of those who suffer from hunger, while highlighting the need to ensure healthy diets for all.
As a leader in the food business, Kitopi commits to playing a part to promote these causes, and has taken an active stance to support the agenda through promoting sustainability. While we have committed to eliminating single use plastics by 2022 and taken active steps to reduce food waste across the production process in all our kitchens, we are also actively supporting external initiatives in the community to promote food sustainability.
In early October, we hosted 15 MBA students from Southern Methodist University in the US across a 3-day on a sustainability project where they spent two days in our Dubai headquarters with our VP of Product Ekta Bhojwani, VP of Supply Chain Dan Hunt, and VP of Global Operations Maciej Kuczynski to learn about Kitopi’s business model and a further day in our satellite kitchen to gain a deeper understanding of our operations process. The visit culminated in a final presentation on their learnings and proposals for Kitopi to become a more sustainable business- all of which are being assessed by our team, led by our VP of Supply Chain, for potential adoption.
As we continue to grow and scale, sustainability will become a core focus and commitment across all parts of our business- not only in our business practices, but in the role we play in the community. As sustainability takes center stage in Kitopi, we will begin to talk about how each of us can play a role and become a true role model of sustainability. Stay tuned for more initiatives to come!
